Is Marriage For You

Should You Go For Marriage Or Living Together

Happy Married Couple

Think back to the old saying that nobody should buy a vehicle without taking it out for a test drive. A lot of people tend to say that that exact sentiment goes for being with someone and getting married or simply living together for quite a while. Today, more and more couples are opting to move in with one another before they get married, just so that they can make sure they are compatible and will have a good chance at the best possible life together.

Is there a magic time frame

Every couple is different, which means that you need to be pretty flexible when it comes to any timeline that you put into place for your relationship. For example, you give yourself a rough timeline of about a year, of living with one another, prior to getting married. However, there could be a number of things that happen in your life that may cause you to either cut back on that time frame or even lengthen it for a while.

What can you expect

When you make plans to live together, for a while without being married, you can end up feeling as though you are already married, after some time goes by. You will not be entitled to any sort of legal protections or rights that a married couple may have. Keep in mind, if one of you starts to grow ill, the other person may not have the ability to take care of all of their partner’s affairs. In some instances, the partner may be limited on visits while their loved is in the hospital.

Happy Couple Moving InIf you take it a step further and you have children together, the idea of marriage may be even more important to you. Some parents will find that it will get redundant explaining that they are living together but not yet married. On the other end of the spectrum, some people may not be impacted by parenting while not being married to one another.

The bottom line is that you need to make sure that you are ready for both options. There is nothing worse than feeling as though you got married too soon or that you rushed into living together. However, taking the initiative to live together before getting married can help you from finding out, after you exchanged vows, that the two of you are not as compatible as you had originally thought.
